How To Create A Personalised Proposal For Your Bridesmaids
Choosing your bridesmaids is a big deal and needs careful consideration. But once you’ve made that decision, you need to then ask them if they will do you the honour of being a bridesmaid. When done right, proposing to your bridesmaids can be a fun, emotional, and memorable event, not to mention a defining moment in your friendship.
In this article, Kirsty Prankerd, Managing Director at Write From The Heart, shares her tips for making your bridesmaids proposal extra special. Lockdown has been tough, but for many couples it’s really put things into perspective.
If you’re amongst the couples who have recently decided to get engaged, congratulations! Now is the time to start planning some of the most exciting parts of your wedding. And that includes who is going to share your special day with you and help you walk down the aisle.
Asking someone to be your bridesmaid is a huge honour, but it can also be quite a demanding role for your friends to perform. So, it’s important to make your bridesmaid proposal as special as possible so that each person knows why you’ve chosen them to be part of your wedding party.
Ideally, you want your present to say, ‘thanks for being there for me through the years, please be by side on my wedding day too’. To help you pull this off, below I’ll share four ways you can create a memorable proposal for your bridesmaids that’s as unique as they are.
Choosing Your Gifts
The perfect bridesmaid proposal gift is something they can cherish forever, so it needs to be both sentimental and long lasting. This could be jewellery, with a unique piece chosen for each bridesmaid. Or even matching jewellery in your bridal colours to establish that you’re a team.
Alternatively, mementos such as ornaments, photo collages, and other home accessories can be kept pride of place in their home as a daily reminder of your friendship, so they’re another option to consider. Remember to include a hand-written card or letter explaining why you have chosen them to be your bridesmaid, highlighting special memories and experiences you have shared.
How To Make It Personal
You should try to make each proposal as personal and unique as possible to make it really special, and so that each girl knows how much they mean to you.
Photographs are a great way to achieve this. You can put together a collage, frame your favourite photo together or print it onto a keepsake. Alternatively, why not include a mixtape or write out some lyrics from a meaningful song? Don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through — if your relationship is based around inside jokes or pranks, you can include those too!
Presenting Your Gifts
Once you’ve decided what to include, now is the time to think about how to present your proposal gift with a flourish. If you’re including multiple gifts (which I would recommend), a wooden or plastic keepsake box can be a great way to keep everything organised. And your bridesmaids can even use the box afterwards to store jewellery and other mementos.
As well as presenting your gifts nicely, think about how the recipient will open everything up — look for envelopes, ribbons, gift wrap and more to draw the experience out. Many people also like to include balloons and flowers to really create a happy moment.
How To Celebrate
Lockdown might mean that you won’t be able to do your proposal in person, which is okay because many bridesmaid proposals are traditionally done through the post anyway. However, this also means you won’t be able to celebrate as a group afterwards, at least not until lockdown restrictions are lifted.
So, instead, schedule a video chat the day you expect your parcels to arrive. As part of your proposal gift, you could include a bottle of bubbly each or some desserts that you can enjoy on camera together and excitedly discuss your plans for the future. And of course, you can look forward to celebrating in person once it’s safe for us to do so.
The tips in this guide can help you plan the perfect bridesmaid proposal for your closest friends. Remember to make each present personal to the recipient to make them feel as special as you believe them to be — and have fun!
