Venue Review – River Mills Ballroom

Recently I organised a styled shoot at River Mills Ballroom and spent the day there also getting to know the venue.

It’s another great option for your wedding in North Yorkshire.  We really do have some fantastic venue choices here in Yorkshire.

The History

River Mills Ballroom has a lovely history – in the past it’s been used as a dance hall, a roller disco and a nightclub.  Over the years many of the original features had been covered up but thankfully not removed.

The current owners have lovingly restored the building and it now offers a beautiful, flexible space for your wedding.

The Entrance and Staircases

The entrance holds the old ticket office and makes for a fun option for your drinks reception.

There are 2 great staircases too which provide fabulous photo opportunities. Firstly, there’s the grand staircase from the main entrance which is decorated with an amazing bright floral wallpaper with sparkly gold panels which I love!

The other staircase is a more industrial style which gives a great contrast against your wedding dress.

The Ballroom

The Grand Ballroom is a fantastic room.  It can seat 120 guests comfortably and can accommodate up to 300 standing guests.

It has 13 huge period windows all along one side of the room so the light is amazing.

There’s a full size bar at one end and a stage at the other end with a dramatic black backdrop.  It also has a beautiful wooden floor – no patterned carpets here!!

This is a lovely space for your wedding reception and evening party – there’s plenty of room for dancing!   And because the décor is so neutral it will work beautifully with any colour scheme.

The Studios

There are 2 smaller rooms, although they’re both still a good size.

Studio 1 is a great size for your drinks reception.  It would also work well as a chill out space for guests to grab 5 minutes peace and quiet.

Again it has an original wood floor and a brick feature wall which is a great backdrop for photos.

Studio 2 is the room which is licensed for ceremonies and can seat up to 65 guests.  It again has an exposed brick wall as well as a gorgeous brick fireplace.  Again this could be styled as a chill out room in the evening or used for your evening buffet to be served.

The light in both of these rooms is stunning too as you can see from these images:

The Packages

When you book River Mills, you have exclusive use of the building – this includes the ballroom and both studios.  You can have access from 8pm Friday until 11am on Sunday which gives plenty of time for set up and clearing away!

You have 2 options for hire of the venue – choose from ‘Dry Hire’ or ‘Full Management Hire’.

Dry hire is a great option to let you design your own day but there is more to organise as you are basically just hiring the building – time to consider a planner to help you maybe!? 😉

You can read more about River Mills Ballroom and the packages here.

I love the flexibility this venue gives you as well as how stylish the lovingly restored rooms are.

When your venue is a blank canvas like this one, it’s often a good idea to get some planning & styling support and I’d love the opportunity to work here.

I can help you find your suppliers, help you design the look and feel of your day as well as managing all the details of your day.  If you’d like to know more do get in touch, I’d love to hear from you.
