Today I’m talking about Smallshaw Farm Cottages & Spa which I visited a few weeks back. It was great to meet the lovely owners, Mary & Jim, and get the full guided tour from them.

Smallshaw Farm is a fabulous spa with 4 holiday cottages who also offer tipi and marquee weddings in their grounds.

Being on the Yorkshire Dales/Peak District border means stunning views from it’s prime position at the top of the hill. Mary & Jim have worked really hard to develop the facilities and it’s certainly paid off.

The spa is quite simply, fantastic.  I was feeling a bit delicate on the day that I visited and was so tempted to just check myself into the spa for the afternoon!  The Thermal suite includes steam rooms, saunas, foot spas, aromatherapy room and mud room as well as a beautiful chill out room.

The team also offer a full range of treatments, including massage, facials and manicure/pedicures in 3 gorgeous treatment rooms. One of these is a double treatment room – perfect for the happy couple to book for a relaxing treatment either before or after the wedding.

The Cottages

There are 4 five star cottages on site which are all very tastefully decorated and really comfortable – perfect for relaxing in after the wedding.  They sleep up to 19 people so your bridal party can stay for a long weekend and make the most of the venue.

The Wedding

The field behind the cottages is the spot for the tipi or marquee. The venue lends itself perfectly to tipi weddings.  They in turn allow you to get creative with the décor and design your dream day.

Top Tip: the venue is accessed by a narrow, winding lane so make sure your suppliers check beforehand that they can get their vehicles up the road.

Smallshaw Farm only hold a small number of weddings each year making it a beautifully exclusive venue and you can be sure that there will be no-one else sharing your day!

The Legal Bit

You can’t get married here, although a humanist ceremony or blessing is fine. You can obviously have a church wedding and then move on to Smallshaw within the same day.

However, many couples are choosing to have a registry office service a day or even a week beforehand. This means your reception can start earlier in the day to make the most of this wonderful setting.

What else?

You get full access to the spa when you stay for the weekend and discounted treatments. The outdoor hot tub is set in a quiet area of the garden.  Make the most of the great views while you relax with a bottle of fizz.

There’s also a tennis court on site if anyone has any energy left to burn off after the wedding.

One of my favourite bits is the Barbeque house which has an indoor bbq with seating all around and rugs – perfect for a relaxed evening or lunch the day after the wedding.

Sound good?

This is definitely a venue with a difference so if it sounds like your cup of tea, you can find out more about Smallshaw here.

There’s more planning needed with a tipi wedding as you need more suppliers, more design input & there’s more to co-ordinate.  I love a good tipi or marquee wedding so please get in touch to understand more how I can help you pull together your dream day in a tipi.
